Rest for People Who Prefer Productivity
I hate rest. (Yes. I see the irony of that statement since I write and speak about rest.)
But I loved afternoon rest time when our girls were little. If I’m honest about it though, it was because I could be MORE productive. Rest time meant meal planning and cleaning, client follow ups and writing assignments, house projects and yard work.
I struggle with rest until I am burned out from not resting. I write and speak about rest because the Lord is gently (and not so gently) healing my concept of rest.
Is that you? Do you rest well or do you barely rest?
Do you know that rest is one of God’s gifts to us? Resting in Him, in His creation, in His blessings, in His comfort. Not because of what we do but because of who calls us His.
Someone needs to receive these words: You are more than what you produce or who you are raising or your billable hours or your grades.
Jesus knows your propensity to be MORE productive and instead of urging you to do it all, He calls you to take time to rest with Him.
"Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'" (Mark 6:31)
