Lost Your Way in Life? Try Resting.
I don’t care which app you use: Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps...or even a pre-app map stuffed in the glove compartment (i.e. the junk drawer for cars).
It’s still easy to get lost. To miss the turn. To get distracted by the roadside attractions. To give in to the monotony of the interstate. To blindly follow the voice on the app even if it takes you down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere at dusk.
It’s easy to get lost in life, too.
Some Ways We Get Lost in Life
We get distracted by work or school or the pandemic or what others think or say about us or what strangers on social media post or binge watching the latest, greatest thing. We give in to the monotony of weekly routines. We blindly follow the voice of the masses even when it takes us down a destructive path leading to increased division or anxiety. We get lost in our negative thoughts and equate them with truth.
Being lost doesn’t need to be a permanent state of being. The Lord offers us directions, but we need to ask for them.
3 Things that Happen When We Seek the Lord When We Are Lost
If you find yourself lost, pull over at a Rest Stop and ask for directions. They aren’t just for wayward road trips. We all need rest and a bit of a recalculation when we get lost.
Jeremiah 6:16 puts it this way: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
When we take a rest in Him, we find the kind of rest stop that only He offers...rest for our souls.
When we rest in Him, He reminds us that He is in control...even if the world (or our situation) seems out of control.
When we rest in Him, He directs our steps on the path that leads back to Him and His ways….the same path that uses the gifts He gave us to invite people to experience the rest and peace He offers them, too.
So, if you find yourself lost, I invite you to embrace this prayer:
LORD I’m lost. Please show me the right path to take. Give me directions step-by-step and give me rest along the way. Guide me back to You and the person that You created me to be.
