How to Find the Strength & Courage
Resting in the Lord gives you strength and courage. When we fully rest in Him, we wholeheartedly release control and trust the Lord with both the mundane details we can see and the bigger story out of sight and over the horizon.
Be strong and courageous. Be strong and courageous. Be strong and courageous. Be strong and courageous.
Four times. That’s how many times Be Strong and Courageous repeats in Joshua Chapter 1. The first three times God said those words to Joshua. The last time the Lord worked through the Israelites to proclaim those words to Joshua. The Hebrew word for courage used in Chapter 1 refers to both the physical and mental aspects of courage. The Lord was building up Joshua’s heart AND the mind for what He was asking him to do.
And, Joshua needed both. Big time. Like God-sized big time. He was, after all, being asked (as a brand-new leader) to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, while also mourning the loss of Moses.
The Lord doesn’t stop with Joshua though.
AT THE SAME TIME He told Joshua to be strong and courageous, God was causing the people currently living in the Promised Land to experience failing courage (Joshua 2). The Lord makes a way while we trust Him and rest in Him.
Friend, we don’t always see how God is preparing other people to stand down while He is calling us to rise up. But we can confidently know that He is. All He asks of us is to trust Him and be obedient. There is strength and courage and REST for our hearts and minds when we do.
