How to Feel at Peace in Uncertain Times
I need peace and rest. Who’s with me?
We live in a time of more questions than answers. More fears and division than peace and unity. You don’t need me to list all of the ways this is true right now. But it’s not new.
Yep. that’s right. There is absolutely nothing newly broken about our world other than right now, in this moment, it FEELS more personal for some of us. But, we’ve been a mess since chapter 3 of the story.
Chapter 3, people. In the Marvel Universe, that would barely get us past the opening credits. And while we know how the story ends (Jesus dies to save us….not Iron Man), we are being called to endure our current situation. But how do we find peace and rest in all that is going on?
We can walk through the unknown by focusing on the known.
We can choose to look to God for His peace and rest and wisdom. We can choose to keep our eyes focused on Him and His promises and His faithfulness and His ways of love and unity.
We can choose to seek Him every day. Every hour. Every moment. Even when we fail. Even when we doubt. He will always deliver us when we really seek Him. And when we choose to seek Him, we are changed.
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant…” Psalm 34:4,5
The same word for radiant is used in Isaiah 60:5 to describe a mother’s face lighting up in joy at the sight of her children long given up for lost. So as we walk through the unknown, let us focus on the Known God. Rest and peace are found in Him.
